The kingdom of Saudi Arabia plans to issue tourist visas for travelers from 65 countries as part of a new programme, Saudi Gazette  reported.

The initiative to grant tourist visas and extend Umrah packages will help generate tourism and steer the kingdom’s economy away from its oil dependence, according to officials.

13 historic locations and 10 museums have been selected as part of the tourism package.

Director of Saudi Arabia Muslims’ Destination initiative, Khalid Tahir, said that the aim was to serve pilgrims and visitors to the kingdom and achieve Saudi Arabia’s ambitious “Vision 2030”, a plan to reduce the kingdom’s dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism.
