Accident on Al Ain – Abu Dhabi truck road leaves 22 dead and 24 injured. A bus carrying 46 people collided with a massive truck, which apparently swerved on highway. The truck carrying sand and construction material collided with the bus carrying cleaning workers from different companies, at around 7:45 am.

Witnesses said most of the workers died after suffocating in the pile of sand and construction material. Al Ain police deployed helicopters to extract the injured workers under the debris at the site.

The bodies have been transferred to Al Ain Hospital’s morgue; the injured have been transferred to Al Ain, Al Tawam, Al Noor and NMC hospitals.

Police confirmed that the majority of the workers killed in the crash are Indians. The rest are from Bangladesh and Pakistan. Police are calling on contracting companies to ensure enforcement of safety rules while transporting workers and inspect vehicle safety standards. They were warned not to overload their vehicles and ensure safe driving under all conditions.
