According to the foreign affairs committee in the Saudi Shura Council, the number of illegal residents in the Kingdom is estimated to be around five million. Sixty percent of crimes in the kingdom is believed to be attributed to them.

The newspaper “Al Youm” published yesterday that according to a  report by the committee, illegal residents in the Kingdom who have been left behind or entered Saudi territory through irregular ways are estimated at five million.  The  Foreign Ministry called to implement immediate solutions to deal with the  illegal residents scattered between Makkah, Jeddah, Taif, Madinah, Yanbu, Riyadh and other cities in the kingdom.

Though a specific official figure for the offenders in Saudi Arabia is not available, about a million of them are believed to live in the Makkah region.  There are also large numbers of illegal residents who stayed back after pilgrimage and infiltrators  from the Yemen border as well as large proportions of Somalis and Ethiopians and Eritreans. The Saudi population is  estimated to be about  twenty eight million, of which  eight million are foreigners.
