ebayThe E-commerce company eBay has warned its 230 million customers to change their passwords today after a major cyber attack.

A database was compromised in the attack that included customer names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, birth dates, physical addresses and phone numbers.

eBay has insisted in a statement that no financial details or credit card details were stolen in the attack, however customers are likely to be worried about the safety of storing their bank details in sister site Paypal.

‘Working with law enforcement and leading security experts, the company is aggressively investigating the matter and applying the best forensics tools and practices to protect customers’, the website said in a press release.

News of the hack attempt emerged today when a message was posted on PayPal under the headline:‘eBay Inc. To Ask All eBay Users To Change Passwords.’
