The Saudi Electricity Company, Directorate General for Water in Jazan and the Saudi Telecom Company participated in the Earth Hour on Saturday evening by turning off 10,000 electricity posts in Sharqiya, Riyadh, Jeddah, Jazan and Yanbu.
In Riyadh, Kingdom Tower and Faisaliah Tower turned off their lights. The Ritz Carlton Hotel also turned off its lights and used 6,000 candles for the event “A beam in the dark” where 200 men and women participated. The electricity company turned off street lights for one hour as part of it’s participation in the Earth Hour.
More than 7000 cities in 152 countries around the world participated in Earth Hour, with millions of people around the world switching off lights in homes, offices and landmarks at 8.30pm local time for an hour to mark WWF’s annual Earth Hour. Earth Hour is implemented on last Saturday of March every year to raise awareness of climate change and other environmental causes.
