CINEMA 70, the Kingdom’s first cinema brand, has announced a six-day series of international family movies in Jeddah this week, as cinemas prepare to make a comeback in Saudi Arabia.
Organized by the General Entertainment Authority, the movies are to be accompanied by various activities and events. The series will begin with Captain Underpants, produced by DreamWorks Animation, and The Emoji Movie, produced by Sony Pictures Animation. Tickets are available at all Virgin branches and through the link
A 35-year-old ban on cinemas was recently lifted in Saudi Arabia. The first movie theaters are expected to open in March. According to the Saudi culture ministry, the kingdom is expected to have more than 300 cinemas – with over 2,000 screens – by 2030, giving rise to an industry that would contribute $24 billion to the economy.
