The pursuit took place despite Haia officials’ earlier warnings against chasing suspects on Saudi roads. Eyewitnesses recounted that the youngsters were followed by a speeding Haia field car. The young men did not stop their car despite warnings issued over a loudspeaker by the religious police. That was when the field car rammed into the fleeing car.
The deputy spokesman for Haia in Riyadh, Muhammad Al-Shoraimi said that members of the religious police arrested two youngsters who were under the influence of alcohol. They initially tried to escape the Haia team, but the Haia car slammed into their vehicle in an attempt to stop their car. The pursuit took place on Olaya Road in the small hours of Saturday morning. Al-Shoraimi added that the apprehended men were also in possession of drugs.
Haia members have been banned from chasing suspects on roads because of the dangers it poses on all motorists. Measures have been taken to monitor field vehicles that break the rules set forth by the Commission.
