As always, visibility has been reduced to 1-1.5 km within hours of the sandstorm. Those on the roads of Riyadh are asked to exercise caution and are advised not to drive at a high speed as the roads are blanketed by thick layers of sand. Residents who are out in the open are advised to use face masks to cover the nose and mouth.
The sandstorm will mostly likely continue to rage Riyadh and the central region of Saudi throughout the night and most of Friday.
Sandstorms are so common in the capital city that some users of social media have called the dusty phenomenon a member of their family.
