A field car of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice chased down and crashed into a sedan killing the Saudi motorist and injuring a passenger on early Tuesday morning in Riyadh.
The accident occurred near an intersection on King Fahd Road (North). According to Sabq news, the Saudi religious police car initially pursued the vehicle, but later rammed into it in an attempt to stop the car. The car veered off an overpass and landed on a lower-level road. The field car immediately fled the scene.
According to Muhammad Al-Shoraimi, assistant spokesman of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the incident is being investigated. “We pray to Allah to forgive the dead,” he added.
Haia members have been banned from chasing suspects on roads because of the dangers it poses on all motorists. According to the commission authorities, measures have been taken to monitor field vehicles that break rules.
Field patrols of the Commission get into hot pursuits despite the Commission’s stern warnings against it.
