Enormous swarms of locusts are on their way to invade Saudi Arabia after reaching parts of Egypt, triggering official warnings to the people in the Kingdom not to eat the insects, according to local media reports.

The locusts are expected to fly to  pass through Egypt during their migration from northeast Sudan and are expected to reach  Saudi Arabia at the end of March and the beginning of April, threatening  farmers.

Citing officials, Arabic daily Sabq, said 10 swarms comprising 40-80 million locusts each, have been sighted on their way to Saudi Arabia and that some of the insects have already entered the northern parts of the Kingdom.

Saudi authorities warned people about eating locusts since this might be dangerous especially since these locusts may have already been sprayed with insecticide. Saudi municipality have already  started spraying all plants to protect them from the locusts.
