Waleed Abu-AlkhairSaudi authorities have arrested Saudi human rights activist Waleed Abu Al Khair on account of organizing unauthorized meetings with reformists, reported Gulf News.

According to Al Khair’s wife, Samar Badawi, her husband was apprehended for setting up an unauthorized diwaniah (gathering place) and hosting meetings with reformists.

The public prosecutor of Jeddah was scheduled to question the Saudi activist on Thursday. Based on the interrogation, a decision will be made to either release Al Khair on bail or keep him in custody.

Previously, the activist faced charges for allegedly disrespecting the Saudi judiciary system, having connections with foreign organizations, and for signing petitions for initiating political reforms in the kingdom.
