Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah on Friday appointed 30 women to the Shura Council, the first time women have been chosen for the country’s top consultative body.

The decree issued  has made Saudi Arabia make a huge leap to the 80th place on the World’s list of Women representation in parliament . It is ahead of nations like the USA, Russia, India, Brazil and Ireland.

The move to nominate to nominate 30 women to the 150-seat Shura Council also has allowed the kingdom  to top the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and to hold the 6th position in the Arab world for the number and percentage of women in parliament.
