The Global Competitiveness Report 2012-2013 that  assesses the competitiveness of 144 economies has ranked Saudi Arabia Number 12 in terms of the quality of roads, overtaking  countries such as the United States, Japan, Britain, Spain and Canada.

Saudi Arabia maintains the second-best place in the Middle East , following Qatar and falls by one position from 17th to 18th overall from last year. The report says  that the country has seen a number of improvements to its competitiveness in recent years that have resulted in a solid institutional framework, efficient markets, and sophisticated businesses.

Switzerland holds the top position overall for the 4th consecutive year. Saudi Arabia is ranked 18 and the UAE is ranked 24.
