Bashar, a student of grade six in an elementary school in the north eastern Qaisoma region of Saudi Arabia, insists on changing his name to avoid carrying that of Syrian president Bashar Al Assad.

He says that he resents sharing the name of the highly controversial Syrian leader who killed his people, Arabic Daily Al Sharq reported.

Bashar’s brother and legal guardian, Hossam Al Enezi said that he was asked by his younger brother to begin legal procedures to be renamed to Abdul Rahman because he did not want his name to be associated with a President who killed his people.

Family, friends and teachers alike are highly pleased with his decision and have already started the legal procedures to change his name.
