The seventh Flowers and Gardens Festival in Yanbu in  Saudi Arabia is making an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records by creating the world’s largest floral carpet, reported local daily Al Watan.

The carpet in the city located on the shores of the Red Sea will have an area of over 7,000 square metres and will use more than 2 million flowers.

Head of organizing committee Yousuf Al Hujaili said as the festival opened this week “All the flowers are natural and the carpet patterns illustrate the history of the city since it was established. The floral artists are using 19 different flowers to create a magic carpet of art, beauty and colours”.

Al Hujaili said that promoting environment awareness and developing aesthetic tastes were among the aims of the festival opened on Tuesday. The festival will run until the 8th of March.
