Haifa Al Mansour’s Wadjda, which was recently selected as Saudi Arabia’s first foreign language feature entry for the Academy Awards, has been enjoying box office success in USA. The film grossed over USD 40,000 in the opening week itself, which is a huge achievement for an independent film, reported Aawsat.
According to US entertainment news, The Hollywood Reporter, Wadjja was called “arguably the best showing of the weekend among new limited releases”.
Last week, Sony Pictures Classics released Wadjda in three cinemas in New York and Los Angeles. The film will shortly be released in other US cities including Chicago, Bethesda, Salt Lake City Charlotte, Milwaukee, Jacksonville, and Tacoma. The film saw box office success in UK, Italy and Spain as well.
