The Corniche in the Red Sea city of Jeddah bore witness to a group of young Saudi men that launched a “smile campaign” in revival of a tradition by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
The men were seen carrying placards that said “Smile! It is a sunnah”, hoping to spread positive energy among people. ” For Muslims, Sunnah means “the way of the prophet” and is made up of the words and actions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Saudis and residents in the city warmly welcomed the campaign, Sabq news reported. The “smile campaign” was launched in response to the “Free Hug “ and “Free kisses” campaigns where young men in the Saudi capital of Riyadh and the Eastern Province city of Dhahran carried placards offering free hugs and kisses to the public.
The youngsters who launched the hugs and kisses campaigns were arrested by religious police for engaging in offensive behavior that reportedly had ‘no room in Saudi society’. However residents and social media users hailed the smile campaign.
