syrian refugee campThe Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia has warned citizens against illegal fundraising campaigns organized for the aid of displaced Syrians.

Authorities have issued a warning that people or organizations raising funds without proper permits will be arrested.

The Interior ministry’s announcement comes after allegations that some of the charity outfits that claim to raise money for Syrian refugees are actually donating funds to “suspicious” groups.

General Mansour Al Turki, spokesman for the ministry said in a statement to Saudi Press Agency that Saudi Arabia is helping Syrian refugees through national aid campaigns led by the Saudi Red Crescent. He advised citizens to be vigilant when dealing with unauthorized campaigns and fundraisers that are not authorized or without permits.
