Saudi student, Ahmed Al-Muhaimeed, risked his life to save a 55-year-old man from drowning in the Dockland area of Melbourne, Australia.
Ahmed was on a picnic with some friends when he heard someone in the water calling for help as they were passing near the Yarra River in the Dockland area. No sooner did he spot a man fighting for his life in the middle of the river, than he jumped in and pulled the drowning man to safety.
Australian channel 9 News Melbourne broadcast a report on the incident and interviewed Ahmed, who said that that he responded to the cries of the elderly man out of humanitarian considerations.
Other local media outlets referred to Ahmed as the “Yarra Hero,” after the river where the incident took place.
Ahmed has worked for the Qassim University in Saudi Arabia and is currently on a scholarship for his master’s in accounting at Monash University in Melbourne. He was also praised by delegates from the Saudi Embassy for his bravery and heroic act.
