A 3-storey building collapsed in the Bab Sherif neighbourhood in Al-Balad area in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia today. Nine rescue teams, two ambulances and specialised search and rescueteams appeared at the scene of collapse.
Director of Civil Defense in Makkah Province Maj. Gen. Jameel Arbaeen personally arrived at the scene of the incident. Sources said that there were people present inside the building when it collapsed, however no injuries were reported.
According to the official spokesman of the Red Crescent in Makkah, Ali Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, part of the building collapsed into the street and the cars parked there, causing serious damages.
The official spokesman at the Civil Defense of Makkah, Col. Saeed Sarhan, said that Civil Defense members continue their search for people under the building rubble. He added that the building collapsed after cracks appeared. Meanwhile the contractor who renovated the building has been taken into custody.
