The Shura Council is studying an amendment proposed for the traffic regulations in Saudi Arabia, one where traffic authorities impound vehicles following multiple traffic violations, reported Akhbaar24.
If a motorist receives four consecutive traffic violation tickets for which payment is not made, then as per the proposed amendment, the car can be seized by the traffic police.
According to the proposed amendment, the violator will be transferred to a Special Course after the third violation is recorded. The penalty can range from double the fines to imprisonment depending on the number of violations in one year after the first violation is registered.
The proposed measure is considered because chronic traffic offenders are a risk to the public.
