The General Department of Traffic in Riyadh has launched a new initiative to monitor parking violations in the capital city. The campaign will use advanced technological devices to electronically monitor and register violations.
Traffic police are now equipped with a new handheld device that they can use to read license numbers and to print tickets for violations. So, now the parking inspectors simply have to place the printed tickets on the windscreen of the vehicle, while the vehicle owners are alerted about violations via SMS.
Patrol vehicles are installed with monitoring screens that automatically send information to the central traffic monitoring rooms. The first of these patrols will monitor parking violations on King Abdullah Road.
The Director of Riyadh region Traffic Department, Col Ali bin Abdullah Aldubekhi said that illegal parking is very common on most roads in the capital city and that it adversely affects traffic. The Traffic Dept will extensively campaign about the new drive before implementing it, reported Akhbaar24 news.
