The woman, a tourist from Taiwan, was taking a stroll along a pier in Melbourne when she got distracted by Facebook, according to international newspapers. She was so engrossed in her phone that she did not realize that she had reached the end of the pier, reported local police.
The woman could not swim and was floating on her back in the chilly water. A witness spotted her about 60 feet away from the pier and immediately called for help. She was rescued and taken to the hospital within 20 minutes of falling.
The police reported that the woman held on to her phone throughout the whole ordeal. They added that she was lucky to be alive.
